$175 Authorization Charge for Gas Stations
If you’ve recently used your GiveCard at a gas station and noticed a $175 charge, don’t worry — this is not an error or an overcharge. It’s a temporary pre-authorization, and it’s a very common practice at gas stations.
What is a Pre-Authorization?
When using your card at the pump, Gas stations place a temporary hold — often up to $175 — on your card.
This is called a pre-authorization. It’s a way for the Gas station to check that your card is valid and has available balance.
What Happens Next?
Once your transaction is complete, the station sends the final amount back to your GiveCard. Then:
-
The pre-authorization hold is released
-
Only the actual amount you spent on gas will remain as a charge
-
This usually happens within 1–2 business days, depending on the station
